Packing for a 1 Week Vacation in 1 Backpack!

For Spring Break this year, my family and I traveled for a week to Washington D.C!

We decided to travel with only one backpack each as our carry-on. There are some definite PROS and CONS to traveling this way but overall, traveling with a backpack was awesome! On today’s YouTube video, I go into full detail on exactly how I packed with a single backpack, what I loved, what I didn’t and if I would recommend it over a rolling carry-on suitcase.

CONS to using a Travel Backpack:

The only negative thing we experienced when traveling with a travel backpack was the weight! Fully packed, this backpack was HEAVY! You’re packing an entire weeks worth of clothes on your back…of course it’s going to be a bit heavy. So I guess my complaint is really on traveling with a backpack, not a complaint on this actual brand/style backpack.

It’s also worth noting, this backpack or any other travel backpack of this size can not be a personal item on an airplane. It will not fit under the seat in front of you and must be stored above.

PROS to using a Travel Backpack:

We LOVED this travel backpack from Target. It’s by the brand Embark and really was awesome! It held way more than you would think it could. The overall design is super functional with a ton of pockets. There is a space for everything! It’s also an extremely comfortable backpack especially considering how heavy it can be when fully packed. My 9 year old had no problems carrying his for the commuting distance we had during this trip.

I was determined for each member of my family to be responsible for only their belongings. Traveling with a single backpack each made this possible. If we had rolling suitcases, we would have likely had an additional backpack each. One piece of luggage each made it manageable to get on and off a plane/car/metro easily.

Besides the travel backpack, the only additional thing I carried was my MZ Wallace Sling bag and my winter coat. Below is a review on the sling bag so you can see how much it can pack.
